SDCCW 64th Annual Convention News

The Superior Diocesan Council of Catholic Women held its 64th Annual Convention on June 16-17, 2014 at St. Anthony Abbot in Cumberland Wisconsin.

 The banquet was held at Das Lach Haus in Cumberland on Monday where a delicious meal was served to approximately 85 guests.  Pictured are Rev. Thomas Thompson, pastor at St. Anthony Abbot, Bishop Peter F Christensen, Rev. Gerard Willger, SDCCW Spiritual Advisor,  Lucille Brandner, past Director at Large and Gayle Johnson, newly elected President of SDCCW.  Banquet entertainment was provided by Jim Kerr.

After the banquet the Mary Jane Morancyk Scholarship was presented to one of the two young woman who was able to attend, Sierra Solm.  Mary Werner, SDCCW Scholarship Chair made the presentation.   See our Scholarship link.

Bishop Christensen was presented the finalists for the Pax Christi Award by SDCCW Chair, Mary Shafer.  See our Pax Christi link.

The winner of the Bishop’s award was Patricia Stine (South Central Deanery) far left. The other finalists left to right were Barbara Ailport  (North West Deanery), Sara Shultz (North Central Deanery) and Mary Zappa (SouthWest Deanery).

Michelle Rochel, SDCCW Secretary and President Elect of Southwest Deanery presented Bishop Christensen with a “Taste of the SouthWest” basket full of
products from parishes throughout the Southwest Deanery.

Convention day was hosted by the 2012-2014 Director At Large – Lucille Brandner.   Mayor Thomas Mhysicka welcomed the attendees to Cumberland.

Our keynote speaker was Sr. Ceclia Fandel OSM speaking on the topic of Following Our Compassionate God-Responding to Human Trafficking

We were honored to have with us our Milwaukee Province Director Jean Kelly who spoke on the topic Will You Be My Servant?  

At the end of the Mass the new SDCCW Officers were installed by our Spiritual Advisor, Rev. Gerard Willger. The new officers are: President-Gayle Johnson, President-Elect-Barbara Gagliardi, Recording Secretary-Michelle Rochel, Treasurer-Sharon Thomas, and Yvo
nne Glonchak, Director at Large (absent); standing in for Yvonne is Lucille Brandner, past Director at Large.

During the afternoon session after Mass and Lunch our Spiritual Advisor, Rev. Gerard Willger, spoke on the topic: Pope Francis–A Message to Us All
