Like Father’s Day, let PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY be the one day when we make it a point to make priests feel truly appreciated and special. It is a day to pray for our priests, in praising God for their courage and their generosity. A simple note, a smile or a phone
call to assure him of your loving care and gratitude for his presence in the life of your local church will go a long way to serve the greater good of our wonderful and growing Catholic Church.
From the Province of Milwaukee, I am sending Ministry Appreciation cards to each one of our WI bishops and the priests who serve on the Province Board thanking them for their continued spiritual guidance of our organization. You may want to send a card to your own parish priest.
Can’t find an appropriate card? I would like to share with you two other ways in which to remember our priests that have enriched our lives on Priesthood Sunday.
A Rosary for Priests
The rosary is a powerful intercessory prayer, and our priests need our prayers now more than ever.
Pray the first decade of the rosary for the priests who baptized you.
Pray the second decade for the priest who heard your first confession and gave you first communion.
Pray the third decade for the bishop who confirmed you.
Pray the fourth decade for the priest who witnessed your marriage vows.
Pray the fifth decade for the priest who will give you anointing of the sick.
Daily Prayer for Priests: St. Therese of the Child Jesus
O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests;
for Your unfaithful and tepid priests;
for Your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields.
for Your tempted priests;
for Your lonely and desolate priest;
for Your young priests;
for Your dying priests;
for the souls of Your priests in Purgatory.
But above all, I recommend to You the priests dearest to me:
the priest who baptized me;
the priests who absolved me from my sins;
the priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion;
the priests who taught and instructed me;
all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way.
O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart,
And bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.
