Last year, you directly received or were forwarded a request from Archbishop Joseph Naumann, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities. He was seeking information about current and needed resources, within or related to your organization, for assisting women in difficult circumstances who are pregnant or parenting young children.
Many thanks to those who were able to fill out the National Catholic Pregnancy Help Resources survey, and additional thanks to those who were able to designate a point of contact for continuing the conversation!
We write to briefly share some exciting updates that have transpired since then, and to invite you to learn more during a webinar next Thursday, July 23 at 2:00 PM (EDT).
When the U.S. bishops gathered for their annual meeting, Archbishop Naumann presented an exciting, parish-based initiative focused on assisting pregnant and parenting women in need. And he invited all U.S. bishops to invite their parishes to join this nationwide effort from March 25, 2020 to March 25, 2021 .
Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service helps Catholics walk with and “in the shoes of” local women who need a warm and helping hand. The USCCB equips parishioners with easy-to-use tools to go through a process of assessing, communicating, and possibly expanding help available in the local area.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many dioceses and parishes to pause or postpone their local launch of Walking with Moms in Need , the effort was always intended to be adaptable to local needs and timelines. Enthusiasm from the parish and diocesan levels remains high, and the USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities continues to provide diocesan and parish staff and volunteers with resources to adapt.
And while the focus of this initiative is largely at the parish level, the services and expertise of Catholic organizations like yours are a critical component of this initiative.
We would love to share more with you about this year of service and some ways you could continue to participate.
The one-hour webinar on July 23 at 2:00 PM (EDT) will give an overview, unpack the background, inspiration, and goals, and explore how organizations like yours can expand their outreach through this year of service.
Will you join us in working towards a day when any pregnant or parenting woman in need will know she can turn to the Catholic Church for help?
Please join us next Thursday, July 23 at 2:00 PM (EDT)!
God bless you!
